24happyhour is a mobile application designed to make a positive impact on our planet and dining experiences.

24happyhour isn't just another restaurant reservation app; it's a solution. It's a bridge between restaurant owners who want to reduce food waste and customers seeking delicious, discounted meals.

Situation Overview


Worldwide, 30% of food is lost or wasted. It is widely recognized that the restaurant industry is a significant contributor to food waste globally. This problem can be solved by providing a platform for connecting consumers with food establishments offering discounted surplus food. This platform can help reduce food waste by ensuring that leftover food items are utilized instead of being discarded.


The app (“24HappyHour”) offers users exclusive access to discounted pricess for dine-in experiences during off-peak hours, allowing customers to enjoy quality meals at a more affordable price. It also helps restaurant owners increase revenue during off-peak hours by attracting more customers.

UX Theme & Why it is important

To address the issue of food waste, I propose the creation of a platform that connects customers with food establishments that share the sustainable values. The idea behind this theme is to provide the restaurants with the opportunity to manage inventory and reduce the food waste. Additionally, it emphasizes the value of money and encourages customers to discover new culinary experiences at a slow time.

By leveraging technology, we create win-win solutions for individuals, businesses, and environment.

Why only in dine-in service in the platform?

User Research & Initial Findings


For initial research, 15 people participated in a survey conducted between 19th and 29th of May 2023. Through this process, I was able to identify the major pain points and insights from the research. Four major insights can be summed up as follows:


  • Cost-Conscious Consumers: Customers are always looking for ways to save money while enjoying quality dining experiences.

  • Sustainability Interest: Many customers are interested in supporting sustainable practices and reducing food waste.

  • A desire to positive aspect of the concept: Users love the idea of discovering new cuisine and enjoying discounted dining experiences.

  • Concerns regarding freshness of food: Due to the discounted nature of the offerings, users expressed concerns regarding food quality. And they emphasized on their desire to receive high- quality meals without compromising freshness.

Market Research & Competitive Analysis

=> As “Too Good To Go” and “24happyhour” have a common goal of eliminating food waste, it is important to note the rapid growth of the “Too Good To Go” (In 2022, Too Good To Go was the one of the fastest-growing food apps in terms of number of downloads).

Our competitor demonstrates a high demand for products within that space. It validates the concept of the idea -“24happyhour” by the evidence of market demand.

Personas

Personas were developed for both customers and restauranteurs based on the research conducted during the research period.

User Journey

By following budget-conscious foodie Alex's journey, I tried to outline any pain points that the user is likely to face for each phase.

Based on all findings, I was able to set clear goals and strategies for solving potential problems.

  • A fun and enjoyable dining experience during off-peak hours: People still have a desire to go out. By adapting a concept of “Happy Hour”, the app caters to this demand by offering affordable meals at restaurants.

  • The importance of incorporating features such as location-based suggestions of restaurant, scheduling options, booking confirmation, and easy booking.

  • Highlight the sustainable dining option: For restaurant operators, it helps increase revenue by optimizing inventory management. For customers, they will have a sense of pride to make a positive impact on the environment.

While the current version of the app primarily focuses on the customer's perspective and displays results accordingly, future plans include the development of features and functionalities that cater to the restaurateurs' viewpoint, ensuring a comprehensive and balanced user experience.

Filtering options help user quickly find and book a restaurant that aligns with their preferences and requirement.
